Grammar: Conjunctions (“And” – “But” – “Because”)
“And,” “But,” and “Because” are fundamental conjunctions used to connect ideas and clauses in English.
AND
The conjunction “and” (ve) is used to combine similar ideas, add new information, or list items.
Examples:
- Zehra is generous and helpful. (Zehra cömert ve yardımseverdir.)
- She can solve puzzles and she can make videos. (O bulmacalar çözebilir ve videolar yapabilir.)
BUT
The conjunction “but” (ama) is used to connect contrasting or opposing ideas.
Examples:
- Zafer is a very kind child, but he never shares his toys. (Zafer çok kibar bir çocuktur ama oyuncaklarını asla paylaşmaz.)
- He can play basketball, but he can’t play football. (O basketbol oynayabilir ama futbol oynayamaz.)
BECAUSE
The conjunction “because” (çünkü) is used to show a cause-and-effect relationship, providing the reason for something.
Examples:
- I have to study hard because I have an English exam. (Çok çalışmak zorundayım çünkü İngilizce sınavım var.)
- I’m going to the library because I need a quiet place to read a book. (Kütüphaneye gidiyorum çünkü kitap okumak için sessiz bir yere ihtiyacım var.)
